The second meeting for Denham Springs was held on July 13th at the Junior High School from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The purpose was to narrow down the community’s input from the Community Visioning Meeting held in June and develop projects to implement the community vision. 266 participants review proposed projects and cast their vote with dots on that project boards and a project ballot. Severe thunderstorms at the beginning of the event may have resulted in lower community attendance.
Community members reviewed the vision and goals, discussed potential projects, and cast their vote on specific project details. Members of the Leadership Committee and City Staff were on hand to provide additional information. Federal and State agencies supported the meeting including FEMA, HUD, EPA the Louisiana Office of Community Development, the Capital Region Planning Commission, the Restore Louisiana Task Force, Louisiana Sprint and two State Certified Contractors (Build SOS and Design Build). Extensive outreach was conducted prior to the event, including a social media campaign; TV, newspaper and radio stories; and flyer distribution. The event received positive press coverage.
The results, shown below, provide a ranking of projects. These projects will be further developed and presented to the community on August 12
