The City of Denham Springs lost access to a number of critical facilities during the 2016 floods. Without access to the City Hall, critical facilities, disaster response efforts are hampered.  These facilities must be available during severe weather events.  This project was identified as a high priority at two previous public meetings.  A portion of these facilities have already been addressed with others under negotiation between the City and FEMA.

Denham Springs’ critical facilities are located in areas that are not subject to flooding or have been flood proofed.  These facilities will continue to operate during extreme weather events.

The following facilities have been repaired:

  1. Police Station
  2. Fire Station #3
  3. Water Department
  4. Youth and Family Services (In Progress)
  5. Council on Aging (1 of 2 buildings)

The following facilities are under negotiations with FEMA to be repaired:

  1. City Hall
  2. City Court & Marshall’s Office
  3. Animal Shelter
  4. Street Department
  5. Fire Engines and City Vehicles

Estimated Cost: High ($1 million+)

Estimated Timeline: Long term (3+ years)
